The Campaign for Undergraduate Education
For the Best in Teaching and Learning
The Columbia Campaign for Undergraduate Education is an unprecedented $865 million effort in support of undergraduate students and the faculty who teach them. Inspired by alumni commitment, it is the largest campaign of its kind Columbia has ever undertaken.
Columbia College, home to one of the most distinctive and sought-after undergraduate programs in the nation, has experienced a decade of remarkable growth—in both quality and stature. The Campaign builds on that momentum by expanding the University’s capacity to attract the very best students and faculty, and to invest in programs that set a standard for colleges and universities worldwide.
Totaling nearly one-quarter of the University’s $4 billion campaign goal, this is an undertaking on an audacious scale, one commensurate with the level of commitment shown by College alumni and with Columbia’s prospects for leadership in undergraduate education.
“The fundamental importance of a high-quality undergraduate program now is stage center at the University.” —Richard Witten '75CC
Why a Campaign
A Columbia education, distinguished by intimate seminar-style classes and by the presence of New York City as an extended classroom, is far more expensive to provide than tuition income alone can cover. Individual giving from alumni, parents, and friends provides funding essential to creating the best in undergraduate teaching and learning on Morningside Heights.
A campaign is the best way to energize alumni and elicit support at all levels. Our goals fall into four large categories: student financial aid, faculty and teaching endowment, annual giving, and other student, faculty, and program initiatives, including departments, centers, and institutes in the Arts and Sciences.
