Financial Aid
Students First: Endowing Financial Aid
In September 2006 President Bollinger announced policy changes providing enhanced financial aid packages for College students from families with incomes under $50,000. These changes were made in anticipation of alumni support for financial aid through the Campaign and reflect a commitment to do more for students in other income brackets as well. Our aspiration is to lower debt burdens for all students receiving aid. We aim to provide all qualified students with the funding they need to attend with full access to academic opportunities and career choices.
The Financial Aid Challenge
On April 11, 2007, John W. Kluge CC’37 took an historic step in our campaign. National headlines announced that he had pledged to Columbia the largest amount ever given to financial aid at any university, $400 million, of which $200 million has been designated for students in Columbia College. Kluge’s transformative gift has already inspired others to help meet the remaining Campaign goal for College financial aid endowment giving.
