Physicians & Surgeons
A $21 million commitment for the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center—for clinical care, research, and a professorship, among other things—leads recent gifts to P&S. Other support includes $2 million for the Muzzi Mirza Pancreatic Center Prevention Program, $1.1 million for the Paul Marks Scholars Fund, and more›
Dental Medicine
Henry Nahoum, D.D.S., has donated $100,000 to establish a fund to support a fellowship in orthodontics for training in the area of craniofacial anomalies.
Nursing

Architecture, Planning and Preservation

Arts
An anonymous donor has given $250,000 to create an endowment that will support fellowships for students in the School’s writing division.
Arts and Sciences
An anonymous donor pledges $20 million toward the new Interdisciplinary Science Building and $5 million for College financial aid, plus gifts for ethnic studies and the Center for Career Education, and an endowment for the directorship of American Studies.
BaseballAthletics
Columbia’s baseball field at Baker Field Athletics Complex will be named in honor of Hal Robertson ’81EN at the baseball homecoming on Saturday, April 26, when the Lions host a doubleheader against Penn. The naming recognizes Robertson’s support for the program. Also: a $2.5 million gift for facilities and a coaching endowment for squash.
Business
The school’s Information and Technology Group will be able to completely overhaul and modernize its current storage environment thanks to EMC Corporation’s in-kind donation of a full Storage Area Network (SAN) valued at $750,000. Also, Reunion 2008 saw a 40 percent increase in attendance from 2007, with more than 1,500 alumni returning to campus for a varied slate of programming.
Columbia College
The College receives $13 million in support of financial aid, thanks to charitable remainder unitrust gifts from Bob Berne ’60CC, ’62BUS, while the Columbia College Fund reports that it has raised $6.8 million in the current fiscal year, slightly ahead of last year’s pace and on schedule to meet its $12.5 million goal. Earth Institute
Recent gifts include $1.5 million for health systems in Africa and $1.4 million for an interdisciplinary approach to the obesity epidemic, plus $2 million in largely unrestricted support.
earth_institute Engineering and Applied Science
SEAS receives an endowment gift for a new professorship in applied physics and applied mathematics, plus Dean’s Day events in California.
General Studies
General Studies is adding a new twist to Class Day by including a reunion component. Class committee members will march with the procession of faculty and students, with a reception for all alumni on Furnold Lawn following the main program. Committee members are contacting their classmates to build interest; alumni can contact Jose Gonzalez for more information.
engineering International and Public Affairs
SIPA held its annual Global Leadership Awards Dinner at the Pierre Hotel on April 14, honoring Arnold Saltzman ’36CC and Lan Yang ’96SIPA. The annual dinner raises money for student fellowship support. More›
Journalism
More than 350 alumni participated in the School of Journalism’s reunion weekend April 3-6. Highlights included the annual Alumni Awards hosted by Steve Kroft ’75JRN, an alumni luncheon at Low Library with keynote speaker David Denby ’65CC, ’66 JRN; and numerous workshops and panels led by faculty and alumni. Individual classes gathered for social events at venues throughout the city.
