New African American and African Diaspora Studies Department Announced

On December 1, Columbia's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to create the African American and African Diaspora Studies department. "The creation of this department is right on time because our nation and our world need the kind of knowledge we produce," says Professor Farah Jasmine Griffin (left), the first chair of the department.
