A Scholarship for Social Workers

After modeling for over a decade, Laurie Ann Marsden '98GS, '99SW came to Columbia to start her second career. “When I left the fashion industry, I wanted to do something very different in life. I wanted to help women in a substantive way."

At Columbia, Marsden studied psychology, psychotherapy, and social work, particularly about women’s self-esteem, and has since created an online therapy program for women. She has been a loyal ten-year annual fund donor to the School of General Studies and the School of Social Work, reflecting the impact of a Columbia education on her life.

Recently, Marsden named $10,000 in her will toward scholarships at the School of Social Work. Four gifts of $10,000 can fund one student’s tuition to bring to Columbia the highest caliber of students regardless of their need. The generosity of donors like Marsden critically supports the next generation of Columbia social workers.
